Custom Alumalite Signs
Light Weight, Weather Proof, and Rust Proof

Alumalite is a strong, aluminum composite metal sign panel with a high density, copolymer corrugated plastic core. Similar in construction to Dibond, Alumalite has two sheets of aluminum permanently bonded to both sides of a corrugated plastic core, sandwiching the plastic panel in between.
The aluminum sides provide rigidity and durability to the sign, while the fluted plastic core makes Alumalite a very lightweight sign panel. It will not swell or corrode from the inside which makes it a perfect choice for outdoor applications. Available in the sign industry primarily for outdoor use, custom feature a factory aluminum high gloss finish and is warranted not to crack, chip, flake or peel.

Alumalite Applications Alumalite are the perfect solution when your sign panel weight must remain low while retaining excellent rigidity. The relatively light weight of Alumalite makes it an excellent choice when mounting considerations or mobility prohibit the weight of heavier wood core sign panels. |
Alumalite Finishing To create a finished appearance, the edges of the Alumalite metal sign material can be capped with either white or black plastic trim. Edge capping enhances the appearance of Alumalite by making it look like a solid aluminum sheet. |

Frequently Asked Questions About Alumalite Metal Signs
The Alumalite composite sign material will not swell, wick water, corrode, rot or delaminate even under prolonged water exposure. The Alumalite material itself will outlast the artwork on your sign. Our uncoated Economy Grade Signs are rated to last up to 3 years outdoors while our Standard and Premium Grade Signs coated with an optically clear, UV Protective Lamination are rated to last up to 5 years, and 6-8 years outdoors respectively. Alumalite signs can last for decades indoors.
We offer more colors for Alumalite signs than anyone out there on the web!
You can now choose from ANY color under the sun when designing your new signage. You can even choose a reflective color!
If you would like a specialty metal finish such as brushed gold, mirror gold, brushed silver or mirror silver, they are available in our Dibond sign material, which is made up of two aluminum sheets on either side of a solid plastic core, or with standard aluminum signs.
During handling and installation of Alumalite signs, extreme care must be exercised. The painted finish is not as scratch resistant as you might think. Although Alumalite metal signs are highly weather and fade resistant, the paint can be easily scratched if you’re not careful.
When cleaning the surface, only use a mild soapy water solution and the softest cloth you can find. Don’t use dry paper towels as they can put extremely fine scratches in the paint which may be visible up close.
Alumalite signs are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Common outdoor applications include: permanent outdoor business signage, construction site signs, real estate signs, wall mounted signs, post and panel, hanging, fence mount, multiple panel signs, point of purchase displays, score boards and more.
While you can install larger Alumalite signs (like 6', 8' or 10' long) on or between posts, you have better options to choose from:
- ARMOUR-Wood is the strongest and most rigid exterior grade sign panel available with it’s dense, ½ inch thick solid wood core
- Alumalite (½” thickness) has almost the same panel strength as Aluma-Wood making it a popular choice for larger signs. ½” Alumalite is the 2nd strongest sign material
- Alumalite (¼” thickness) is still a strong, highly rigid background material and has the 3rd highest panel strength
- Dibond sign panels have 10 times more strength than .040” aluminum sheets. Dibond is not quite as stiff as Alumalite, but is still considered a rigid sign material making it #4 in strength
On a scale of 1 to 10, with “10” having the highest relative strength, here’s how each aluminum sign background material compares to one another:

When you need a more rigid sign panel in a color other than white, you have three great options to choose from:
- Unpainted Alumalite panels can be completely covered with self-adhesive vinyl at our shop in your choice of any color.
- We can spray paint or powder coat Alumalite sheets any custom color you choose.
- You can choose another rigid composite aluminum sign material that has a broader range of factory painted colors available such as Dibond, Aluminum & ARMOUR-Wood.*
Usually, *Option #3 is not only the best choice, it's the most cost effective (but not always). For example, if you are looking for a gold metallic background color for a 2' x 3' x ½" Alumalite metal sign, the most cost effective solution would be to simply cover the Alumalite sign panel with gold metallic vinyl. It's fast, it's easy and highly durable.
Setting up to paint such a small sheet from stock or having to buy a whole 4' x 8' sheet just to get a small section of a special color isn't always practical. We'll gladly provide you with the best option to suit your individual needs at the time of your order.
- Ideal for pressure sensitive vinyl which bonds securely to it. It has the same high gloss surface as vinyl graphics, so the final sign is visually coordinated.
- Alumalite is strong and lightweight. It's about the same weight as .040 aluminum sheet metal, tipping the scales at just 24 lbs. However, Alumalite is over 50 times stronger for a 4' x 8' sheet.
- When properly installed, Alumalite has an average outdoor life expectancy of 10 years
